Wearable Tech Workshop

Beginner-friendly, one-day workshop, for ages 10-16

290 Singapore dollars
Goldhill Shopping Centre (Novena)

About this workshop

Through this 6 hr introductory workshop, your child will first learn the basics of electronics and coding using Arduino, and go on to build their own smart wearable tech device, that they can take home, use and continue improving on! One use-case they will focus on, is developing a wearable device that can assist people with visual disabilities. Students will experience first-hand, the challenges of conventional guide canes used by the blind. They then apply their new-found tech skills to design and prototype their own fully-functional assistive device, that a blind person can use to navigate around freely. And they do all this using largely just upcycled material. Each child's design is completely unique to them, and the objective is for them to walk home, at the end of the workshop, with the confidence that they can use scrap material lying around the house, along with some low-cost electronics, to build a real-world device that someone else can actually use. No prior experience needed! Classes sizes are also kept small (max. 6 students and 2 facilitators) to ensure each child gets the attention they need. This program includes a free Arduino Kit worth $50, to continue tinkering on your idea at home! All participants will receive a certificate of completion. NOTE: Participants are required to bring their own laptop, laptop charger and mouse for this workshop.
